Try to stay away from tourist traps to get some real Italian cuisine but of course there are good places to eat...it's Italy!

Venice is great town. oh how great you must to see and feel that. You can eat in one of lot restaurants on piazza St. Marco. That's nice place with a lot of birds. That town is so romantic. I hope you will have great time there.

walk away (inland) from the 'touristy' places - like go by the local street market square and eat where you see the locals eating - great food!  

also for reasonable rates go for Trattorias versus Restaurants.  Remember, also, that in Italy, Spaguetti is a course not the whole meal.  ENJOY!!! You will LOVE VENICE.  Get an all day pass to use the water taxi and sit up front...

Sandwiches are yummy and the street pizza stands and a glass a beer go down well.

Coffee and cake in the afternoon - and voila!

Stay outside of Venice if you want to save on hotel - it is easy to get into Venice (train)

If it is raining - listen to the news. We w/there last year and the following week St Marco's square was under water....

they have listings for restaurants all around the country... sorted by location and cuisine!

not only that but they provide you with the COMPLETE menu too... much better than most of the directory sites that just tell you the phone and address!

Any trattoria, the small restaurants have great food. I particularly liked the Venetian pizza, little ones, on a pie crust.
