Any good student checking accounts w/ no overdraft fees?

Looking for a student checking account w/ no overdraft fees and a good reputation. I've heard WaMu and Bank of America are horrible.

I'm looking for something where I will have very little in the account, just for miscellaneous purchases. FREE checking a must.

  1. All banks will charge overdraft fees if you do so.  There ain't no free lunch.  You are always responsible for keeping a positive balance in your account.

  2. There are NO accounts which do not have penalties for overdrafts.  You will have to pay attention to your balances and never bounce a check.  And for free checking, many banks require a minimum balance be maintained at all times, such as $500.

WaMu & BofA are in trouble due to the mortgage situation.  They also hold a great deal of derivatives, Collateralized Mortage Obligations and other Collateralized Debt Obligations.  Their balance sheets are in precarious positions.  Find a smaller local or regional bank wherever you are.
