  1. when u dive, dive at an angle using your arms as a guide to "soar" through the water.

  2. Diving is tricky but it is one of the most important parts of swimming in a race.

When you dive, your goal is to go out and to dive as shallowly as possible. This is because you swim faster when you are above rather than below water. When you're on the block, you are crouched over, one foot in front and one in back and are gripping the block. From there, you push yourself forward by using leg power. You want to feel as though you are going to touch the flags. From there, you want your hands to enter first, followed by your head, shoulders and then the rest of your body.

Once you're basically submerged, point yours hands up (a slight movement) and start butterfly kicking in order to straighten yourself  out.

It takes practice to dive well and even the best swimmer has some bad dives. Don't be afraid!

Bellyflopping is caused when the dive came in at the wrong angle and didn't push out as much as they could with their legs. This is common for beginner divers until they figure out how to dive in properly.

  3. well it all depends on ur way in. If you jump you'll most likely do a belly flop if your going vertical. But if you stand with half of your feet half way off the edge and in position just push and you should be far out, nice start, on the top ready to keep going, and pain free. :)

PS put ur arms out straight for a nice clean streamline

  4. I can't help, but have a similar story.

I'm driving my swimming coach up the wall.

My team tried to get me to do time trials, and we had to dive off the blocks. That was a very amusing story in itself!

  5. The reason you belly flop is because you are not pushing and jumping out. You also aren't keeping your legs straight and drop your butt when you're in the air.Try jumping up and out when you dive instead of just out. Also, assuming you are diving at the start of a race, use your entire body to power yourself. when you're in the start position and you are diving off the block, as you push off thrown your arms and head forward. This will give you more momentum.

A good dive is when your body enters the water streamline.

  6. diving is something that takes practice. what makes a good dive depends on a couple of different aspects. You have to have a good line up on the board no matter if your jumping forward or backward. Your legs have to stay together always. like they've been glued together. keep your toes pointed. If you go in feet first that will help break the water and if you go in head first it will help keep bubbles from forming. You definitly don't want bubbles because that's something that makes a dive bad though that usually is only counted against you if you're in competition and wows the crowd if they're paying attention. Your arms when completing a dive stay glued to your sides when going in feet first. when going in head first, you glue them to your ears and fix you hands so that one hand is in front of another, palm out. this helps break the water so that if you land a perfect dive it doesn't feel like you've hit your head on metal. this will also help for when you reach the bottom of the pool. you wont be hitting you head but your hands as long as you keep your arms firm. never let your arms give way when hitting the water you pretty much have to lock your elbows. when doing a flip, don't frog leg it. that means that you keep your body small, tight, and together. if you decide to take lessons and your local rec center, through your school or something your coach would teach you how to count or  teach your body how to come out at just the right time so that you can land whatever dive or trick straight up and down. that's all the advice i can give you online. good luck!

  7. tips for diving :) :

    good thumb sandwhich,

pretend your diving into a tube or a hoop which is under the water, and which you cant bearly fit through, and which is quite fair a way( so you gain the push )

    a good push

    break surface ready to swim

dont stay under water to long,

make sure u actually set of when the buzzer beeps,

    or else you'll get dq

or you'll get a slow time.

anything else you want to know?

    much love xo
