Any good tips for deciding and finding the best college?

im a high school junior and im interested in attending an out of state college(im from nashville,tn). i would like to know any tips or advice for finding the best college for myself. Ive been thinking about attending college in florida or ny. florida because of the tropical weather and fun activities and diversity. ny because of the diversity and just because i always wanted to visit. (any info about these 2 states are apreciated!) i want to go to a state where ppl are friendly and things like that. those are just 2 states i was thinking about besides my own and georgia. please help me out!

A couple of things...

First, you might have more success posting this in the Education section.

Secondly, you really need to discuss specifics with someone who knows you better than a bunch of strangers on Yahoo.  Some good general tips are to take a look at academic reputation, whether you would do better at a small school or large school, etc.  The key here though is to check with your guidance counselor or a teacher at school you trust to discuss your future plans with.  They can provide much more guidance than the rest of us.
