  1. I find it easiest to slide the contact to the side of my eye first.  Look towards your nose and then gently slide the contact over towards your ear to the white part of your eye.  Then gently pinch it out.  (If you try to just pinch it off the front of your eye, you risk scratching your cornea.)

Make sure to hold your lids tightly--there's no getting around that.  Make sure that the fingers you use to hold them open are dry.

I also put a little solution on my index finger and thumb so the contact is more inclined to stick to them.

I would suggest cutting your nails short while you are still learning.  Once you are more used to inserting and removing the lenses, long nails won't be as much of a problem as they are now.

If you still have trouble, have someone watch you while you do it.  He or she can point out any mistakes you are making of which you may not be aware.

And of course: keep practicing.  It's always hard at first, but you'll get the hang of it.

  2. If you have a really tiny rake or a spork use it to get them off.

  3. I have been wearing lens for almost 20 years and have sacrafice my long nails :(  You may have to do that . . .it sucks but the things we do for beauty :)

Make sure your hands are clean before taking them out, and putting them in.  Thats the most important thing if you wear contacts, as you could get an eye infection.  I also find using eye drops and blinking a few times after helps lubricate especially after a long day of wearing them.  I usually pull the lower part of my eye down, use my middle finger and pull the lens down and out.  NEVER do this if your eyes are dry.  I did that once and my lens was not budging and I freaked out.

Everyone does it differently. I heard of some people using there thumb and first finger and pinching them out . . .I could never do it. I remember when I first got mine I was 13 and clueless.  I am now 28.  It takes time, but you will get the hang of it.  If you still are having trouble.  Go back to see your eye doctor or where ever you got your lens.  They will most likely be more than happy to help do it correctly.

it takes time you will get it.

CONGRATS on the contact lens :)

  4. hey!

    i got contacts today :)

well, normally they tell you to hold your upper eyelid and lower eyelid, and pinch the contact out, but i don't like that method, because i always think im going to pinch my eye or something, so what the doctor said i could do is: slide the contact down, and then pinch the contact out. i found it much easier.

and yes, long nails make it MUCH more difficult. and can also spread infection.

so what i think you should do: is relax, and keep trying. i mean, it'll take time to get used to not blinking and stuff.

OH and here's a REALLY good tip that my optometrist gave me:

when you hold your upper eyelid, hold your eyelashes. a majority of the time, people can't get the contacts in because their eyelashes interfere.

    good luck!

  5. Unfortunately, the only real solution for getting better at it is to practice.

Having long nails is going to make it more difficult.

I use my thumb and index finger on my left hand to hold my eyelid open and then gently "pinch" the lens with the thumb and index finger of my right hand. This separates the lens from my eyeball so I can lift the lens away without any trouble.

It took me quite a few tries to get it at first but now it's pretty much on autopilot.

With practice, you'll be removing them quickly and easily.
