I'm going to Germany this summer, but I don't know where to go. I will stay in Frankfurt (Hesse). But I could possibly travel to other parts of Germany.

  1. here are some: Norderoog, Schorfheide,Spreewald,Harz,

    Berchtesgaden.

    Beautiful nature reserves....

  2. Defiantly a trip to Trier for the day.  It's a quiet town on the Mosel River.  Squeak a day or two into the Black forest.  Freiburg is nice, Baden-Baden (kind of a resort), Triburg (Germanys largest waterfall, Cuckoo Clocks, and real black forest cake!).  Definatly take the ICE somewhere, it's to nice to pass up.  Most of these are a couple hour bahn ride I imagine from Frankfurt.

  3. Lots of stuff and you will be very centrally located so that is good, Munich to the south, Koln (cologne) to the west, Berlin, Hamburg to the north. The first thing I would do is become familiar with the ICE railroad system that can wisk you to these places quite quickly...then take your pick, wish I had a summer to exactly this...Have fun...

  4. Frankfurt is near the Rhine River, which has many ships from which you can view the vinyards and castles.  Take the train to Ruedesheim to catch the cruise.  You can get on and off in many of the little towns along the way.

Take the train to Heidelberg, a university town about an hour south of Frankfurt.  Take the tram up to the castle, do the philsopher's walk, enjoy.

Take the ICE to Berlin for a long weekend.  The trains go 150 miles an hour, so you get there fast.  But, they are so smooth, you can walk around or eat in the dining car while en route.

In Frankfurt, enjoy the many museums near the Main River and the Roemer (Roman) section.  Frankfurt has a mile of stores along the Ziel, which is good for walking and people-watching.  Take in a show at the beautiful Alt Oper (old opera house).

If you don't mind leaving the country, you are close enough to go to Czech, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Poland, Denmark, Austria or The Netherlands on a long weekend.  The same passport that got you into Germany will let you go to any of those.  At most borders, no one will even ask for an id.  Again, i recommend the train as the way to go.

You can also get cheap airfares out of Frankfurt.  Check the counters at the airport, or check out opodo.de

  5. Try Heidelberg...its beautiful...and full of American in summer..you'll like it..
