Any good(free) programs to convert Sony Hi8 tapes to my hdd through composite cable Firewire not recognized?

Windows movie maker shows video,but cannot get sound to work no matter what I do.I am using a HP m7560n computer with media center and Hauppauge WinTV PCI II 26xxx Capture card.I tried using firewire hooked up to my camcorder but windows XP did not see it.

  1. You may need to reinstall the driver for the camera!! Consult the Sony support site for your camcorder model!!

  3. you should be able to use your original hi8 cam to transfer to mini dv or dvd recorder.

    don't forget hi8 is analogue and you can use a digital cam to 'digitize' the footage.

  4. is it possible to get a video capture card? they are not expensive and you can either connect threw rca or s-video.

    i know USB is c**p when it comes to importing video and firewire is the way to go.

    but if you can find one of those video capture cards or read up about the import qaulity that would work.

    EDIT: Sorry didnt understand your question at first. check your audio in puts on your computer and see if there on and working  if that doesnt work try installing either your capture card again and camera software.
