Any great lakes surfers???

ive always wanted to lake surf, and im a pretty decent snowboarder (i dont know if that matters, tho...) so i need to know what kind of board would i use? when is a good time to go? all that good stuff... ive never been surfing in my life before...

early morning after a storm or big winds, shortboard or fun board, fun board is like a smaller longboard much easier to learn on than shortboard and BRING a wetsuit will be cold
