I just moved to Ottawa and am looking for some great places to go out and eat. Not the kinds of places that I could go anywhere, just stuff that is located in and around Ottawa. I've already found a couple of places, but am always looking for more.

  1. mcdonalds

  2. They make the best grilled wraps I've ever tried at the Centrepointe Cafe and Deli on Centrepointe Drive (near the library).  Best poutine is at Elgin Street Diner.  Los Palmas on Elgin street is great for mexican food.  For fancy places, I love Milestones, and Restaurant 18 (18 York Street), and the Courtyard

    Welcome to Ottawa!

  3. La Bottega deli and sandwich shop located at 64 George street in the Byward Market.  For the price of a sub at Subway, they will put together a sandwich out of freshly baked bread stuffed with so much meat, cheese and veggies that you might might not be able to finish it all in one sitting.  The Roses Cafe downtown at 523 Gladstone is THE best indian food in the city.  This place will blow away all those cheap indian express places you see in the food courts of malls, but also expect to pay a bit more for the quality.  DuBarry Chinese Buffet at 33 Selkirk St in Vanier is my favourite buffet restaurant with tons of choices including a sushi bar.  Enjoy!

  4. Re. post above: there is no "Los Palmas" on Elgin St. There was a "Las Palmas" in the Byward Market, but it closed years ago. Mexican on Elgin = Pancho Villa, which isn't half bad.

    Milestones = c**p chain.

    First recommendation: Ahora. On Dalhousie in the Market. Fantastic Mexican. The atmosphere isn't up to much, but it's cheap.

    And, have a good wander through both sites for more -- especially the ottawafoodies one.

    For beer: Pub Italia. (Preston St, Little Italy)

    For Chinese: Ging Sing. (Somerset, in Chinatown)

    For Indian, buffet-style: East India Company. (Somerset near Elgin)

    The Lone Star -- Tex-Mex, mostly Tex -- is extremely popular with Ottawans, too.
