  1. Get Frank Zappa's "Joe's Garage-Acts 1,2 & 3" Where Steve Vai is credited  for playing "Impossible Guitar Parts" .It'll blow you away!

  2. When I was in college a few of my friends had "Flexable".  I didn't really like it.

Steve Vai was in a cool movie called "Crossroads".  Maybe your bf would like the dvd.

  3. Buy him both. I know they are pricy but very cool.

Steve vai is the man.  Big time shred guitar virtuoso.  Session guitarist on a lot of recordings and a successful solo artist.

  4. Go with Passion and Warfare. Vai is incredible!!!

  5. Steve Vai another product of Frank Zappa. To play for Frank you have to be one of the best and Stevi is right up there with the best.

  6. as far as being the best, id probably go for the older one, will be harder to get in the future,  Steve was\is a legend, great guitarist, check out closed auctions on ebay, and see what they generally go for, dont pay more than you should,

  7. Either, you cant go wrong with Steve Vai, or if he doesn't already have it get him the dvd of one of the G3 concerts.

Vai is cool, much respect to him and Satch.

  8. Hmmm....Passion & Warfare is a much more focused record than Flexable which is just Vai trying to be Frank Zappa. I would get him Passion & Warfare...I mean it has "For The Love Of God" on it which is arguably Vai's best guitar solo ever!

  9. If he doesn't have Flexable, that would be the way to go.

You also might want to check out some old Frank Zappa alnums, as he was Franks guitarist for a while {liitle Stevie's spanking  is aparticularly good song showing him off.)

Also the movie Crossroads (w/ Ralph Machio ) co-stars  Steve Via. Steve also did the sountrack.

You cant go wrong w/ Steve Via.
