  1. go easy on speed horses when playing a new polytrack, currently there are four in use in major racing in North America, in Woodbine, Ontario Canada, Keenland, Turfway, and Hollywood Park in Los Angeles...the woodbine turfway and hollywood courses still play speed but not as keenly, and closers have a chance when the track has moisture, (lots of long prices  hit turfway when its wet at all distances) the keenland track has a mean closers bias considering it was the nations most notorious speed favoring inside post favoring track at all distances on dirt...if you see closers getting home, esp horses coming off turf or shortening up out of routes then jump the bias early , as bettors are keen and will figure that out...good luck!!!

  2. If horses have run over it before, like at Turfway, Keeneland, etc. then you should make sure they have shown a little bit over it in the past.

With horses that come over from Hawthorne, if they closed ground in the stretch they are really likely to improve over the Arlington poly.  Hawthorne is such a speed track that being able to close at all is a positive sign.  Arlington is going to be a lot more fair.

  3. SPEED

    SPEED

    &SPEED

closers love it--but so many early speed horses become impossible to be caught.

  4. You seriously are going to have to wait about  a week to see how the races play out. If it's anything like Keeneland this season, no jock will want to set the early fractions because the closers actually had the advantage in most races.

In the interim, I would play runners who 1) have raced well over a synthetic surface  2) have bullet works or quick works over Arlington  3) research sires to see if there may be plays based upon a sire having good runners on these new surfaces.

  5. The first poster had a few good points, past success and good works over the surface should be the first thing to look at, but finally look for the best horse in the race, I play every track and surface the same way, a good horse will more times than not overcome any bias or track condition.
