My daughter just turned one and she is going to the GI doctor and her regular doctor next week. I was just curious what other Mom's went through and what your child was switched to. I am scared to go through anything that might upset my daughter's tummy. I don't miss all the problems we had in the beginning with the protein allergy.

I know the doctors have said that typically babies outgrow this allergy around 1 year and that they are normally switched to milk just like other babies..is this true??? I had tried soy formula 2 months ago, under the GI doctors request and she had 3 bottles and was throwing up for several days. Any advice would be appreciated so I can ask lots of questions. I want to be as ready as possible when the transition takes place. Any parent that went through switching formula's due to this allergy should understand where I am coming from so please only comment if you have gone through this or know someone who do.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

  1. My kids drink rice milk and love it. It has calcium and doesn't hurt their tummies. I say, no matter what people tell you, don't subject your child to soy or milk proteins while they are so young and having trouble. My kids are sensitive too and I now know to not listen to the "professionals" who tell you to give them cows milk, and to give them what they can digest. They love rice milk. I also want to advise you that if you have a little one who is sensitive, to read a lot about vaccinations because you might want to wait until she is 4 and her immune system is tougher. I didn't with my daughter and she has autism. I waited with my son and he does not. Neither of them can tollerate milk proteins and it took me so long to learn all of this...way too long because I trusted my pediatricians and not my gut.

I wish you luck and commend you on your search for answers

  2. Both of my children were on hypoallergenic formula.  My doctor just had me mix a little bit of whole milk with the hypoallergenic formula with one bottle to see what would happen.  I want to say it was about 1 oz of whole milk and the rest was formula.  That way if there is any kind of reaction it shouldn't be as severe and hopefully none.  My son didn't do as well as my daughter did.  We actually weened him on to the Step2 formula for a few months and then he did fine with regular milk.  Every baby is different.  Good luck!

  3. homo milk or soy milk  if baby is lactose is usually the next step after formula

  4. my son's had a milk allergy we put them on lactad for a year and tried them on milk after two and have not had much problem now good luck with your little one listen to your doctors like you have been and things will turn out ok keep trying formula's they make one that is hypoallergenic you just have to read the labels
