  1. I'm not sure about how to repair the stone but I can give you some good advice for waterproofing the wall. You should use a penetrating water-repellant (water-based solutions are easier to use than solvent-based ones). You usually apply these products with a wet-on-wet application; you apply two coats, with the second coat being applied immediately after the first. Many people think you need to let the first coat dry before you apply the second coat; however, the second coat will then be repelled since water is the carrier!

It's important to use a penetrating product as opposed to a product which "seals" the surface for two reasons: 1) freeze-thaw protection. When the substrate freezes, it will expand. If a product is sitting on the surface, it will cause the product to crack and peel. You want something that will be a part of the stone. 2) Vapor permeance. You want trapped water vapor to be able to escape so it will not break down the stone from the inside. Something that seals the surface will not allow water vapor to escape.

There is a website with some good waterproofing products:

    www.saversystems.com.

    I hope this helps!
