bikesdirect.com has good deals at the low end, though you need to do a bit of the assembly yourself. Otherwise, try craigslist.

Try your local Craig's List.  There are some great deals and it has the benefit of allowing you to try out the bike before you buy it (unlike a catalog or ebay).
