2) A horizontal force shifts a box of mass 40kg a distance of 2m along a rough floor. If the work done is 200J, find the co efficient of friction between the floor and the box.

  1. 1) Work = force * distance

    400J = 100N * 4 meters

    2) 200J = Force * 2m; Force = 100N

    40 kg mass * acceleration of gravity (9.8 m/s^2) = 392N of force into the floor.

    Force_forward = friction coeff. * Force_normal

    100 = mu * 392

    0.255 = mu
