I have to get from the Madrid airport to the Hostal Los Alpes (Calle C/ Fuencarral, 17 - 28004 – Madrid)

Is there anything I should know about taking the subway in Madrid? Any particular issues with the vending machines? Do they take Euros or do I have to buy a ticket? Thanks!

  1. The Madrid metro system is really user friendly, even if you don't speak english.

You have to buy a ticket before you board the metro - they have electronic barriers.  At the airport stop, there is always a really long queue for people to buy tickets from a person.  Use the self service machines and save some time.  You can select your language.  If you plan to use the metro a lot during your stay, by a 10 trip "metrobus", of costs 6.70 so it's 67 cents per trip instead of 1 euro.  There is a 1 euro supplement that you have to pay for catching the metro from the airport.  You can buy an airport supplement ticket at the machine.

From the airport you need to take the pink line to Nuevos Ministerios then change onto the dark blue line to metro Tribunal.  Take the Calle Fuencarral exit and there you are.  Enjoy your time in Madrid!
