I'm worried about breathing technique, stamina and getting tired, when I should eat and warm up as well as how I should hold my arms and avoid stitches in stomach area. Other tips are good too.

  1. Everyone's bodies are different, so i dont know if this will work for you, but this is the strategy i use for an 800. It works really well for me

i usually eat lots of carbs 1-2 hours before, and drink a lot of water. try doing some form drills and jogs about a half hour before your race, then do some static stretches and strides about 5 minutes before, when they have you out in the bullpen. when your race starts, try to do the 1st 100 or 200 at almost a sprint, then ease up for the rest of the first lap. then for the second lap, pick up the speed. when there's about 200 left go all out. try and really use your arms throughout the race, especially at the last 200. it will make you move more smoothly and quickly. it will also make you go faster without getting as tired. also, try and use shorter and quicker strides. that will also make u move faster without getting tired.

    hope that was helpful!

  2. Don't listen to other people's race strategies because they don't know you and your ability, style, conditions, competition and a  lot of other factors.  Ask your coach for something like that.  If you get a cramp in 800m you either need to warm up and stretch better (at least 20 minutes w/u stretch) or you aren't conditioned well enough for it.  Look at elite runners.  They run with their arms driving forward, shoulders low and relaxed.  Eat a bagel 2 - hours before the race, and stay hydrated.  Don't drink a gallon on gatorade, though.  6-8oz per hour, unless it's very hot.  Your best bets are to stretch completely and stay hydrated and fueled.  Ask your coach a good race plan.

  3. if youv gotten this far youll be fine. dont rush yourself.

  4. i would just say pace your self but when your done itll seem easier than u thought when i had 2 run it in gym i thought i was going to die but just pace yourself
