I will be taking an accelerated 8 week EMT class over at El Camino College in Torrance, CA.

This class is going to be hectic and I was wondering if anyone had good study tips that have helped them in accelerated courses.

  1. Try to keep your enthusiasm for the class at a high pitch.  Nothing can keep you focused on learning like a real love of the task at hand.  Take pride in building up your skills and knowledge to the fullest extent of what is being taught knowing that even perfection in the classroom is "only the ante to open." The real test begins after you finish the class.

Beyond attitude is making the time commitment necessary to master the task.  Do not short yourself by letting other things snarf away your time to study.

And my last tip is go beyond the text.  Dig into back up information where ever the text seems to be skimming shy of the entire story.  Flesh out any subject area where you have unanswered question.  Bring those added data into your work on test day.  These untaught but pivotal little gems were always able to gain respectable comments from my professors.

  2. read read read....stay ahead of the syllabus by reading 1 or 2 chapters before it's covered in class. as you read, take notes. it helps to refer to these notes before the test instead of reading the chapter all over again. write down medical terms so you can refer back to them in case you see it again in your reading.

    good luck.
