  1. I am in college now, but I was homeschooled K-12.

~The experience, for me, was great!  I loved it!  Every year my parents asked if I wanted to go to school and every year I said no way!  Why would I want to give up all the things I do every week so I can sit in a classroom for eight hours a day?!  If I had gone to school I would have had time for one, maybe two activities.  Homeschooling gave me the time I needed to participate in art, violin, piano, orchestra, string quartet, politics, classes taught by other parents, classes at the commuity college, family time, hanging out time, me time, time for a job, I could never have done all that if I was in school!

~I am pretty sure I had more friends homeschooling than I would have if I had gone to school.  I had friends from all the avtivities that I mentioned above, plus friends from church, my neighborhood, and my homeschool group.  I am a pretty quiet person who likes a small group of close friends as opposed to a large group, so all the activities I was in insured I made many small groups of friends in (in addiation to many acquiantances).

~I never went to public school so I can't answer that.

Every homeschooler has a defferent experience.  That is the beuaty of homeschooling.  And not every homeschooler has a good experience.  Then again, not every public schooler has a good experience either.  But I had a great time homeschooling.

  2. I have a thirteen yo (who does have his own account here but is too busy to post) and a 10 yo, 9 yo and 8yo who are homeschooled.

To answer your questions, they say that they like being unschooled. They can learn what they want, when they want. The oldest says that he has all the same friends that he had in public school, with the added benefit of not having to deal with all the PITAs that were in the school. My girls say that they have enough friends to keep them busy every day, why would they want more?

They moved from public school, and they like it better because everything they learn is related to something they have an interest in, rather than being taught a bunch of pointless data (hey, their words, not mine) that is meaningless in context. They can do things their own way, rather than being told that they can't or shouldn't do x,y,z. The 8yo was told in preK that she ABSOLUTELY cannot color outside of the lines, and I was called because she replied "Would you say that to Monet?"

  3. My daughter is 11, too young to be on YA and is not allowed to talk to strangers online. But, I can tell you we just got back from the movies and she is at a friends house right now. She was in public school up to the third grade. She liked the kids and the teachers, but could not learn in that environment. As a parent, I was dissatisfied with her school experience. Now that she has been homeschooled, she says she never wants to go back to public school. As long as she is happy and learning, she won't ever have to go back.

  4. Home school is GREAT.  I got kicked out of my school and I'm a senior and 17.  I can go to work during the day and hang out with my friends who gradulated or dropped out,  and the work is easyyy

  5. Its hard if your home schooled a long time and then moved to public. You wouldn't of thought how kids r so nasty and mean. Some home schoolers missed having the normal size of friends. The schooling though is vary similar. Ive done both and home school I think is by far the best. The kids from home school turn out better most of the time to.Hopped this helped!

  6. hi i'm 15 and used to be homeschooled.  it was an amazing experience but it was difficult for my mom because there is three of us in the family.  so now i go to a public school and it can be fun but i really miss being homeschooled because i lerned at my own pace and didn't have to rush and cram things in.  when i was sick i could reschedule my studies to a different day.  friends weren't missed because i could talk to them after they came from school and i had many other homeschooled friends.  If you would like any more info let me know.

  7. its feel very boring  you felt taht your parents is the only friend in the world no one else, you never experince to go out with your school friend, you never go watch movie with them beside your parent and it's so boring i ever experince it because i have home schooling

  8. My son is 10 and too young to be on Y!A alone, but I can have him answer your questions when he gets back from a campout tomorrow afternoon.  He's been homeschooled by choice for 4 years after attending a private school for 3.

  9. andmy 3 ssters and 1 brotheonly go to the public school 4 like band and we have never been 2 public school for a full day ever.

  10. yes.

  11. I'm 13 and homeschooled and all my sisters are either homeschooled or were home schooled. I can't compare it to public school because I've never been but I think homeschooling works best for me.

There are all sorts of different organizations for home schooling and so the experience is different for everyone. My experience has been mostly good, I won't lie, sometimes I wish I went to school with my friends, but I don't want to give up the flexibility and the uniqueness of being homeschooled.

About the whole social aspect, I have no problem. I have loads of friends through Girl Guides and other extra curricular activities.

  12. I'm 13 and have been home schooled since Kindergarten. The experience is okay I guess. I've never been to public school so I can't compare the 2 but I know from all my friends that go to public school that homeschooling might be hard school work wise but public school is definitely harder pure pressure wise. I have a lot of friends at my school (I go to a charter school so I do have a school campus I'm just home schooled the 5 school days) and from church so I don't really miss out on my social life. But the only great advantage about homeschooling is that it lets you do a lot of things during the week that you wouldn't normally be able to do. (: I hope I helped.
