  1. Hardware Grill:

    The Spirit

The spirit of one of downtown Edmonton's oldest institutions lives on in one of the city's most talked-about places to eat out. The Hardware Grill, located in the brick shell that once housed the venerable W.W. Arcade hardware store, now serves award-winning cuisine within the confines of a comfy dining space. Where do-it-yourselfers once stood in line to buys nuts and bolts, patrons can now relax and sample some heavy-duty Canadian cuisine.

    The Food

Main courses consist of cedar planked salmon, with Rosemary-Pinot noir butter and mashed potatoes; Alberta Angus tenderloin with a goat cheese crust; lamb ribeye crusted with mushroom sausage and applewood smoked pork. Then there's Yukon gold potato risotto, truffled roast organic chicken and asparagus-seasonal mushroom ragout to accentuate the experience.

    The Rest

Local diners aren't the only ones singing the Hardware Grill's praises. EnRoute Magazine, Wine Spectator and Anne Hardy's Where To Eat In Canada have cited the spot as one of best places to dine in the country. Unlike the Hardware Grill's predecessor which catered to a come-as-you-are clientele, the atmosphere is a lot more upscale. In short, leave your coveralls in the garage.

    Good Luck.

  2. I have heard it's good (although I haven't been there).  I read that book 'the Garneau Block' and it was mentioned in there HA HA!

A nice fancy place (although pricey) is the New Asian Village on Saskatchewan Drive.  http://www.newasianvillage.com/
