Question:

Any idea how to adjust disk brakes? Any help appreciated?

My disk brakes (front only) got a bit ineffective.. the cable was just too loose.. so i had it serviced, and since then, i can often hear a faint squeak from them.. and my wheel only spins a tenth as long as it should. (been back to the guy but he's a muppet)

..so i tried to adjust it, managed to tighten them, as they'd loosened, but now they're even worse, and if I pull them hard, they lock and i cant actually stop braking. it's a matter of time before i go over the handlebars

please any links, descriptions, anything, will be helpful.

  1. Parktools.com

  2. Go to a good bike shop. Use the "search for a bike shop" option at:

    Or if you have no money left, come back and tell us what make and model brakes you have, or at the very least, what make and model and year bike you have.

    It sounds like you have a very cheap model of cable operated disc brake, the brake arm pivot is probably sticking. the best thing you can do is upgrade the caliper, get a caliper made by Avid or Shimano. The cheaper calipers are trash, and not worth wasting time and money on.

  3. go to a decent bike shop (not halfords) your brakes have to be spot on. if you try doing it yourself and you dont know what your doing you could just make it worse.

    a decent bike shop should sort it out for less than twenty quid.

  4. If they're Shimano, the instructions will be here;

    http://techdocs.shimano.com/techdocs/ind...

    Look for documents labelled 'SI' for service instructions, but this is pretty standard;
