I have an idea on how to make a solar powered vehichle self powered. Unfortunately I have no knowledge of electronics. My idea is well thought out, but I'm not sure if it is a feasable idea. SO my question is: How would I go about contacting someone who is in the business of solar powered vehichles?

  1. I do not believe there is a company that make solar powered cars for the public, you might try contacting m i t i know they a program in that field  good luck

  2. P.O. box, the sun

  3. A micro van like the one in freds link was driven around Japan for a tv show. ( ...yes it was a long series..) It seemed to get about 30 klm on a charge,  which ain't much, but could be useful to some people.

Personally, I thought it wasn't bad for a backyard job. It was a self build too, I assume.

  4. Your best bet is to contact the Universities, they are all in competition for these ideas right now.

As far as I know there are no companies doing solar powered vehichles just a lot of inventors.

I read that Delft University made a solar powered car.

  5. A good college or university may have some engineering students interested in making your plan work.

  6. there is a business of solar powered cars? Funny, I've never seen any in the streets...

  7. Never heard of one. The primary reason is due to the very large area required for much power from Solar Cells. A fairly good cell is about 3X4FT and can supply a few light bulbs. You would need a lot to supply a car.

  8. Hi, I was the exhibit coordinator for the American Solar Car Race Across America about five years ago.

    check out the website above.

Cars are designed and built by students.  One group is high school oriented, another is University oriented.  You will find lots of leads at that site.

Schedule yourself to attend one of the races, and meet some really wonderful folks.

    Good luck

  9. Via the internet.................

  10. Try these people for a solar rickshaw http://www.speedace.info/solar_powered_r...

Here is an example of a solar van http://solarvan.co.uk/  that is in daily use. it is a self build though

But, for the size required for a generally acceptable performance, it is better not to carry the weight of the solar pannels around, but install on a garage roof where they can be properly aligned. Tesla will provide this service if you buy one of their cars http://www.teslamotors.com

  11. I recently saw a solar- panelled garage that would charge an electric car.  The problem - people usually drive during sunlight hours.  My proposal - Make interchangeable battery backs that can be alternated.
