For the past month mostly in the evening he gets a see through film on his right eye which covers half the eye-given him the impression there is something in his eye. He bathes it with eye wash-tends to go a little while later, after a few days it returns much to his annoyance

  1. It sounds like a cataract to me, is he having problems with seeing street signs, or halo's/starburst's around lights, how about glare from headlights. These symptoms are often included secondarily to the filmy feeling. If any of the above are true that, is probably what it is. He should be seen by an ophthalmologist to double check. A cataract is just the aging process of the natural lens, typically the lens can be removed with little or no complication as an out patient procedure. Cataracts typically occur in people around the ages of 45-75 and sometimes even younger,  wedid surgery on a 35 year old not long ago. I hope this helps.

  2. Send him to the eye doctor.

  3. allergy if it's itching and burning , needs medications .

  4. wow! not too sure but check out www.webmd.com and use the symptom checker very useful, and i suggest u take him to the doc if it worsens.

    good luck!

  5. Could be a general eye disturbance which would need to be looked at the doctors. Hay fever is a very common eye problem this time of year but your discription didn't sound like hay fever so i would go see a professional Optition.

  6. Sounds like a build up of mucus in the tears, commonly caused by dryness or irritation. It's hayfever season so that could be the cause but it could be dryness as I said.

I would bin the eyebath, they don't really do anything, they just wash the eye, you need to treat the cause to make it go away.

Try getting a clean flannel and dipping it into hot water (not too hot because you don't want to burn him), then place the hot flannel over the closed eyelids. Leave it there for a few minutes then gently press the eyelids. If it works it will make your vision appear all greasy. What is happening is the oil glands in along the eyelids will have released into the tears making the vision greasy. Cleaning the oil glands should help it flow properly into the eye and stop the eye getting dry, if it's not dry then you shouldn't get the mucus build-up. Do this every morning and evening for about a week, should help!

If no improvement try an antihistamine eye drop because it could be hayfever related.

  7. It sounds like a deep infection in his conjunctiva. Get him to see his GP as they might be able to cure it, or send him to an eye specialist.

I hope it gets better soon. Good luck.
