I want to start taking classes this fall. I am a single mom with one child and my income in 2007 was 21,225. I received $660 a month in child support for 6 months of last year. I've started the FAFSA application...just wondering what my chances might be and how much I might qualify for, if any.

  1. I'd say you have an opportunity if you qualify under FAFSA rules... the college you're considering will certainly tell you no harm comes by applying.  Most people have already received their FAFSA grant... it's typical to send in all your information in early January.  The sooner, the better.  Good luck to you.

  2. As above it depends.  However it also really depends on your state.  Apply for everything you can!  Look for state funds.  Write your State and National Representative.  Not a long letter, but a simple one saying you are a single mother looking for help getting through college.  You won't pass the politicians radar screen , but many have standard replies with a lot of helpful local funds.  The best course for many is to find a job with the state or the university itself that pays for part time classes.

It seems to me you have a good chance at educational loans.

But if you can swing a job that pays for part time course work you will save a lot more.

    Good Luck

  3. There is so many changes from FAFSA , you never know but since you are a single mom you will probably get some money

  4. to be honest it really depends
