Question:

Any idea why a Macbook Pro can't connect to wireless network using D-Link when previously it did??

We got a new D-Link Router. We had another D-Link before but upgraded to a more powerful one, but my son's Macbook connects for a page or two and then cuts out. He'll shut it, open it up, again surfs a page or two and it cuts out. Any idea what might be wrong?

Thanks!

  1. I wish I could help ya, sweety, but I cant even figure out whats wrong with mine...still no flash...

  2. It sounds to me like it's blocking his MAC (not the brand) Address. However, it's letting him connect and browse a couple of pages. Do you have any security in your wireless? If you don't you might want to make sure that the SSID is hidden and the you're using WPA-PSK II wireless security. I'm thinking that the router is resetting the connection because of some weird network security settings. Also, it could be that the MacBook needs a static IP address or perhaps it already has one and it needs to be changed. Is his laptop using OS X 10.5.x "Leopard"?

Also, are there any other computers connected to the router besides his? Perhaps there's duplicate IP addresses. Since you're question doesn't give specific network settings it's hard to troubleshoot.

There might even be a DNS issue. Can you connect to OpenDNS's site with the IP address? http://208.67.219.60/

If you can connect to a site using just the IP, then it's a DNS issue. And depending on what ISP you have, you might want to consider switching to OpenDNS.
