Make some garden stepping stones for your yard or patio. Use fast drying cement in aluminum cake pans, the cheap dollar store  throw away kind.

Before it dries stick in shells, glass half marbles, little plastic critters, whatever. They aren't really to walk on, just ornamental. My grandsons and I made a whole row of them and they've been there for years.

it all depends of your age, I used to know a kid who collected cats' whiskers , so as you can imagine it was not so easy but quite original. First to be running after a cat, then chasing it and having the scissors to cut the whiskers. He had all of them in an album, with the date and place of the encounter.

Robotics!

Do some web surfing and search for robot kits that you can build. There are kits for any level. You can build them, program them and then keep adding functionality.

There are even robots such as Sumobots that actually wrestle one another out of a ring.
