  1. My friend had a great Groovy 60's-70's party for a friends 40th Birthday. They all dressed up in some great costumes. You can check out her photos and the details of her party at www.crashthisparty.com  under the adult category.

She is very creative and has great ideas. She also has a picture of the cake she made.

Have fun...this is a great theme.

  2. fondue

    disco ball

    key party

    tie died stuff

    joints

  3. NE2SW had alot of good ideas, and I WAS around to party in the 70's!   I actually don't remember eating fondue, and the food was basically the same as now:)  But, onion dip with potato chips was pretty standard then, and quiche (mini quiche for snacks) - bowls of "munchies".  You could make some brownies and put a little oregano in them (for texture, not flavor - ala "Alice B. Toklas" brownies).  We had cheap alcoholic punches (no one had money for much else) and I remember one party with just strawberry soda & vodka in a bowl with some dry ice (lots of pink fog):) .... Go-go dancers in cages (I worked across the street - Sunset Boulevard - from the Whisky-a-Go-Go), so if you have a sturdy card table you could create "bars" with crepe paper to the ceiling and take turns dancing inside the cage:) ... girls: white go-go boots and "hot pants";  straight hair parted down the middle with a headband around your forehead , but then we also wore bell bottoms, platform shoes, "angel" blouses and flowers in our hair, and lots of beads ....  You need to get "In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida" by the Iron Butterfly (I worked for their manager) which was a cult hit then.  In fact, if you have Direct TV, they have channels of just music for each decade.  The 70's may be 804:) .....  There were 2 very distinct styles to the 70's.  Early 70's was Hippie/Woodstock and late 70's was Disco.  I don't think you want to combine the 2, so pick one:)  Early 70's are lots of bright neon colors, pop flowers - "Laugh-In"....

  4. Oh i've had one before so lots of experience =]

For decorations you should have a disco ball, anything multi color or shiny. and have a bar for refreshments.

invintations should have a words that are "groovy"

have mini hotdogs . burgers and regular party foods

you can do whatevers you would like with the presents thats not neccessary

also have a costume contest by show of cheering like who votes for ..his costume then woo..yeah!! something like that.

    more insperation?

watch thats so 70's and austin powers for more ideas =]

    hoped i helped

  5. What a great idea!

Of course your realize that I am FAR too young to remember the 70s! (I wish)

Definitely be playing 70s music, Disco? Get a disco ball...probably cheap at Spencer's.

Require everyone to come dressed in 70s clothing...some of it is in style now. Wild colors, hip huggers, bell bottoms, BIG shoes, silky disco shirts, collars up. Some clothing may be available at Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Everyone must style their hair for that decade...guys part their hair down the middle, girls can curl their hair like Farrah Fawcett.

Food, gee, I don't know....pizza? Fondue? Maybe the food was the same as now?

Games, how about playing twister. Truth or Dare?

Have TVLand on the TV in a room to the side, or be showing some series or 70s movies on DVD. Smokey and the Bandit, Jaws, StarWars etc would be great.

Gifts....how about slinkys, maybe some s****. Doo stuff, or Brady Bunch items. Were rubik's cubes from the 80s? Poprocks and other novelty candies are available at The Old Time Candy Company...  http://www.oldtimecandy.com/

For invitations, I can't think of anyplace to get them off hand, but if it were me, I'd search on line for a 70s kinda looking picture and print it to make my own invitations. Use words like "A Groovy Time". Use wild colors, then print them yourself or email them.

If I wasn't so young and didn't have to be to bed so early, I'd ask for an invitation myself! It sounds like a blast!

  6. mind-altering substances are a must!

    and good mellow music :)
