  1. How about doing some work with people with learning disabilities like a community building project so people are more informed what wonderful people they are?

  2. You could participate in The Pencil Project. It's easy and very rewarding. Learn more at their website and check out the Gallery to see what other kids have done...

    www.thepencilproject.com

  3. How about doing a collection for a local animal shelter.  They always need things newspapers, dog and cat food, towels, cat litter, etc.  most have a list of things that they need.  You can also see if you can get others to help walk and play with the animals clean cages etc.

  4. For animals: millions of adoptable cats and dogs are killed each year, simply because no one will adopt them and shelters don't have the facilities and funding to take care of all of them. If more people spayed and neutered their pets, more shelters could become "no kill" shelters, and this senseless slaughter could stop.

You could create an awareness campaign targeting your fellow students, about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. You could:

-- write an article for the school newspaper that talks about the importance of spaying and neutering cats and dogs, and/or write a letter to the editor of your local paper on the same theme

-- use your profile or blog space on MySpace or FaceBook or whatever you use to talk about the work of the national offices of the Humane Society and the ASPCA, as well as the local offices, to talk about your local shelter, etc.

-- interview someone that works at your local shelter, to talk about how many animals the organization has to kill every year because of pet overpopulation, and where people in your community can find low-cost spay and neutering clinics, and post this interview on your MySpace or FaceBook profile

-- create a poster that encourages people to spay or neuter their pets, and ask various local businesses, your school, even your community of faith, if they will display the poster somewhere

Not only would you get the Girl Scout Gold Award, you could make a difference that has lasting impact.

  5. How about adopting an orphanage or something to help the kids in Haiti, It is the poorest nation on earth and the children are starving, I was there on a mission trip in January. Heart breaking. If you would like some more info on it send me an email, you will change lives, a dollar a day there is the average income. It will break your heart but it will also give you or anyone else the opportunity to give of themselves something that those children only can dream for, and it is called Hope, caring, kindness. Those things, for haitian children, are only a fairy tale.
