I'm looking for a good used car for my first vehicle.

My price range is around $3000-4000

  1. Go for the reliable models like the civic, corolla, maxima, sentra, h**l even a Taurus.

Plug these models into a site like driverside.com and go for the years 1999 to 2002.

See how much they cost, and how much the repairs cost- a Taurus will be cheaper but probably cost you more in repairs over time.  Toyotas and Hondas hold their value much better, but will last longer.

Then check out your local papers and craigs list to see what you can find, test drive and then take to a mechanic to make sure the car is in good shape.

    Good luck

  2. I would buy a used Honda or a Toyota.  Not only will they get excellent gas mileage, but they are usually very reliable cars.  I have always had Toyotas and never had a problem with them.  Even on the coldest mornings (I live in Chicago), they start right up.

  3. I agree with Chicago, same applies to my toyotas as well. Very good vehicles, but if you buy one, make sure its a four-cylinder and has a very light tick in the engine, note,,,,, this is normal. If a toyota does not have a slight tick, then something is wrong. Plus, a few mornings where I live, VA, it was in the single digits and my old truck with almost 300k miles, honestly, it started right up after just three cranks. That is simply unheard of for the most-part. God Bless
