Any ideas for a motif for a surprise birthday party for a mom/grandma (55 yrs. old).?

the birthday person has no hobbies, is workaholic, hates the beach, loves hi-end products. i need ideas desperately before April ends.

High Tea might be an elegant idea for a party ...or a Black & White Party (everyone wears black & white; decor & food is black& white) ...  An elegant cocktail party might be nice, maybe with different types of martinis - or wines - a chocolate fountain

I would do some research as to what events/music/movies/fashions/food styles...etc...were 'the thing' during the year she was born and just use those facts as the theme for the parts...kinda like a time machine back to the year she was born.
