My daughter is going to be in a play at school and will be a sloth(animal kind). I don't sew, so I need ideas for making her into a sloth without buying a costume. 10 points for best idea to help me.

  1. Go to a thrift store and a brown hooded sweatshirt  and sweat pants -- or light set that you can dye with coffee or fabric dye. It should be too big for your daughter, like an adult small, and they don't have to be exactly the same size. Dye if necessary.

You will also need two sets of brown work gloves, a small set that fits her hands and a larger set that you can use over her shoes. Stuff the pinky fingers into the gloves and glue them shut with fabric glue or just take a couple stitches with needle and thread to sew the gap shut. Do this for all four gloves, and do the same with the thumbs. For the "feet" gloves, stuff the three remaining fingers with something soft, like fiberfill or paper towels or whatever, so they stand out.

Put your daughter into the sweats, stuffing the top of the pants and the shirts with fiberfill (thrift stores usually have that, too) or something else that is soft so she looks "fat". After she puts her shoes on, slide the "feet" gloves over the tops of her shoes, keeping them secure with the elastic cuffs of the sweat pants. If they won't stay in place while she walks, you may have to safety-pin the gloves to the inside of the sweat pants.

    Look at this picture:

Using face paint, paint the hollows around her eyes black, a triangular section around her mouth black, a stripe across her forehead white, and the rest of her face brown. Pull up the sweatshirt hood and tighten it so it looks like she has a round, brown head.

Have her put on the gloves. Her pinky and ring finger can go together in the same ring-finger section. Her thumbs can just stay tucked in on her palms.

    There you go -- a three-toed sloth!

  2. I think you should try to find something at this site. I didn't look very far, but even if there isn't a sloth you can find something close, and then get creative! Good luck to ya!

  3. I would say a hoodie sweatshirt tied very close to the face, a pair of sweatpants that match the hoodie.  A pair of sneakers and maybe you can get a cheap pair of gloves, dye them to match the hoodie (maybe a little darker/lighter) and glue long fake fingernails onto the gloves then paint the black or dark grey.
