  1. Axis & Allies (far superior to risk)

A Line in the Sand (not sure if that is made any longer though)

Stratego is always good fun (in terms of strategy gameplay)

  2. Hmmm... I thought I had answered this but must have "fat fingered" the keyboard....

I'm not sure what Risk *2* is but I know and love Risk.

    Another great game is Diplomacy.

You get the strategy and politics!  You have to make deals with other players (e.g. I agree not to attack you in Turkey if you will leave me alone in Africa).  Sometimes you get stabbed in the back and sometimes you have to break the deal.  Sometimes you make deals in bad faith (but be careful because players will stop trusting you...).

It really is a good game.

  3. Well, assuming you did want a board game...

Nexus Ops is a fast paced sci-fi battle game.  You need to control mines to get the resources you need to build more troops.  The game is driven by 'mission cards'; you win by completing the missions and scoring points, which rewards aggressive play and makes for a very exciting game.

Shogun - feel up to a challenge for your brain?  You'll need to plan ahead to not only conquer more land, but get enough taxes to afford your armies, enough rice to feed your provinces, and to build castles and shrines to improve your lands.  (Oops - there's also an old Milton Bradley game called Shogun; I'm not referring to that one, but the new game by designer Dirk Henn).

BattleLore - an exciting 2 player fantasy combat game.  Or, try Memoir '44 if you'd prefer World War II.

    Good luck finding something!
