Any ideas for an adult BUG theme Party?

I'm 23, for my birthday we are throwing a Bug theme costume party (around 100 guests). My friends take costume parties very seriously and we are trying to come up with decorating ideas. For example we are making a huge cake shaped like a slice of cake. A giant potato filled with potato chips. We are serving bloody mary (for mosquitos) and hunny rum (for the bees), we are making a giant foot print on the floor and giant grass leafs. Any ideas for food or decoration? Keep in mind that the guests ARE the bugs, so we can't eat gummy worms for example. get it?

  1. Red-and-white checkered tablecloths (or paper table covers, of course) would be perfect, if you can get them with large enough checker-squares, of course.  Is there any way oyu can draw a huge picnic basket (a roll of that brown paper that look like what paper bags are made of should do the trick) to put on the wall?

It may not quite fit the theme, but have you ever come across the kids' food "bumps on a log" or "ants on a log?"  It's made with lightened peanut butter (stir in one part margarine to 3 parts peanut butter) spread in the groove of cut pieces of celery stalk.  For hors d'oeuvres you can cut the celery in 2" or 3" lengths; if it's used as part of a light lunch, use 6" lengths.  Dot the sprad celery with raisins.  To make the grown-up version, add a few of drops of hotsauce (like Tobasco) to the peanut butter mixture before spreading it on the celery and adding the raisins.

  2. You could serve giant meatballs for the dung beetles :-).  Remember, many insects do eat other insects, so you could play with that.

Yellow jacket bees LOVE beer.  I have no idea why, but they do.  When they are around, you have to always check for them in the mouth of the bottle or can.

Of course, you need tequila for the worms.

Decorate with giant flowers made from colored tissue paper.

  3. Dollar Tree has alot of GIANT bugs ($1 each) ....  You could buy some cupcake "trees" (craft stores, Kroger) and cover them with brown/green crepe paper to look like plants; put an artificial leaf on each cupcake holder, and put cupcakes (decorated as a flower on top) on those (to look like a giant plant) .....
