Question:

Any ideas for covering a window in my shower?

I just moved into a lease home. In my master bath, there is a huge 45 " x 45.5" frosted window. The thing is, that while taking a shower, I noticed that I could see some details outside a little more clearly than I thought I should. A few days later, I had my roommate stand in the shower while I went around outside... and holy cow!! I could see at first her outline clear as day, then she leaned closer and I could see the design on her t-shirt and the color of her eyes. I was momentarily mortified. Since this is a lease house, I need a good temporary idea for covering that window up so I can take private showers!!!

  1. Cut a dark plastic trash bag and tape it to the window.  Good Luck!

  2. they have a privacy window film

    peel and stick

it kinda looks like stained glass

    can be removed

    try lowes

  3. yes my binoculars hehe

you can get waterproof roller blinds

  4. Go to home depot they have these cool window coverings, they just adhere to the glass and peel right off. I have used them as fish tank backing. They have many designs and light will still come trhough but if you get one with enough pattern it should solve your problem.

  5. i would suggest talking to the owner and seeing if he/she would mind if you bought some "opaque-ish" window film to put on it. i mean thats something that everyone should want to have in the window while they're taking a shower id think. if the owner says no, ask if he has any other ideas to cover up the window.

  6. Hi, well, LOL, first tell the landlord who may allow a more permenant fix! If the glass window has a smooth surface I suggest you use a can of spray paint (mask it off and don't paint the frames) perhaps the same color as the exterior. Or, paint the inside. You can also find window frosting and simply add more frosting to the glass. If the window frame and sill (bottom) provide enough space, you can place glass blocks in a frame, caulk between blocks and the frame and simply place it in the window on the shower side. You could also use a piece of exterior plywood the size of the window, paint it with kills and glue on any wall covering, tile or a shower rack to hold soaps and shampoos. You also might try using an old shower curtain on a rod. There's a thousand ways to do it, have fun!

  7. I bought a great vinal accordian style window shade at Home Depot that you can actually have cut to size. It is vinal so it is water proof and it comes with double sided tape so you can just peel and stick it up inside the window frame. It cost me only about 10 dollars.  I was worried at first that it might get mildew from the shower but I have had it up for a year and it still looks like new!  I found it amongst the paper shades that you can cut with scissors.

  8. You can buy contact paper meant for windows that is (eventually) removeable.  Some of the patterns are more concealing than others!  I have seen them at Home Depot and Lowe's - they come in rolls.  I'm not sure if you'd need to take extra measures to ensure they don't become loosened by the steam, though.  You can at least try it, for $5- $10 a roll.

What are people thinking, putting big windows in showers anyway?  LOL.

  9. You should cover the frosted glass with a shower curtain as as the frosting gets wet it becomes transparent, try it by spraying water on it. You will need to find a simple way of supporting the shower curtain maybe a spring loaded shower pole it should not cost too much. good luck

  10. The hooks from 3M could hold up a vinyl shower curtain you may have to cut it to size for your window.

  11. They sell this wavy glass at Home Depot, Actually it's just plastic, but they'll cut it for you. have them cut it to 44-1/2 X 45-1/4 and keep it in place with some little picture frame hooks or small screws.
