My father is leaving for Iraq next Friday and he requested a Thanksgiving dinner before he left. So this Sunday we are having Thanksgiving dinner and I am in charge of the cranberry sauce. I would like something fresh and unique. Any ideas?

  1. My family has been making this cranberry sauce for years.  It can be made with fresh or frozen cranberries.  If you don't have a food grinder, just chop the cranberries and orange as fine as you can.  It's expected to have chunks of fruit as well as the celery and nuts when done!

    CRANBERRY SALAD

Grind together & boil 5 minutes:

    1 package cranberries (12-16 oz)

    2 oranges (including rinds)

    2 C sugar

         Combine:

2 small pkg. lemon or orange jello

    2 C boiling water

Combine & cool cranberry mixture and jello.

         When at room temperature, add:

    1 C chopped nuts

    1 C chopped celery

Refrigerate until set.  We normally put it in a 9 x 9 glass pan but have also done it in molds.

  2. its easy to make cranberry sauce. Frozen cranberries easily available in the markets. use a pot and just simmer cranberries, lemon zest, orange zest, and bit orange juice and sugar. Simmer the mixture for while and u r cranberry sauce is ready for turkey or other maincourse

  3. The Foodnetwork has a search engine just for things like this.  See below.

  4. Make it from the heart. Make it from scratch. Usually, on bags of cranberries, sold in the produce aisles or frozen fruit section, there is a recipe on back of the bag. IMO, it tastes much, much better than the canned sauce. Besides it has better texture. Best wishes and my support goes out to your Dad!
