Question:

Any ideas for daily hockey practice?

Ok, so far I've been practicing three hours a day for three weeks straight and it's hard balancing this with summer school and a job, are there any ideas for a plan where I can practice my skating, stickhandling, passing and shooting? I want a plan that is effective but where my body won't suffer terribly from all this hockey since I still have to work. What is a good time limit for practice, an hour or two? This is my second year playing hockey and I want to be able to make my college team in four or five years and if not I just want to be able to enjoy playing in a game without having to worry about looking stupid. I took skating classes last year but my skating still needs some polishing, my stickhandling sucks, my passing is alright and my shots are horrible. Please help my hockey career, this is without a doubt the toughest sport to learn!

  1. Hockey camp!

that's the best way to get better

    or get privates.

    do dryland

    get a shooting board.

  2. For stickhandling, just go outside with a stick and a ball and practice. Do wide reach and short reach. Try to keep your head up the whole time.

For shooting, once again, go outside and shoot on a net or a brick wall. You can use a ball to work on technique, but using a puck with a skill board will work best. http://www.nudo.com/nu-ice/skillpad/. You can also practice passing with this too.

Skating is a lot of technique. Go to free skate, open hockey, whatever, just get out on the ice and practice. You can build up leg strength on land by simply running, but the only way to perfect your technique is to get on the ice and practice.

If you can find a coach, trainer, or hockey player who can help you out, that will help a lot too. Certain shooting techniques can be complicated, so try to find someone who can help you or read up online.

Hope everything works out for you!

  3. skating you can practise on your own other skills u gotta have someone4 competition and apply what you've been learning. also this way you get the most of your workout.

  4. For your shot, just shoot.  Take a bunch of pucks and shoot against the wall for as long as you can.  The more shots the better.  Practice is the only way to get better and without a shot you're screwed.

  5. try finding a local hockey coach and ask him for private lessons or just find a reccomended hockey trainer
