Any ideas for inventions for a science project?

My son has a science class where he has to submit an invention?? he has to make the product or item for the invention so it cannot be very difficult -- he is in the 5th grade and is 11 years old.. and I am not very creative.. any ideas.. help with ideas for inventions?????

First, remember that you don't need to invent a replacement for the internal combustion engine (but if you can, great. you'll both be rich and heros), so keep it simple. Try to improve on something that he already does, like brushing his teeth. For example make a simple Rube Goldburg devise that puts the toothpaste on the tooth brush, such as, the alarm clock goes off, releases a string that lowers a pre-determined amount of weight onto the toothpaste tube putting the toothpaste on the brush. Most parts can be bought at Home Depot or any hardware store. Have fun with it (great for parent and child) and good luck.
