Question:

Any ideas for things to do instead of smoking?

I'm trying to compile a list. I'm not a pack-a-day smoker...more like 3-10 cigs a day, and I would like to not smoke tonight when I go out. If I spend a day in I probably won't smoke at all, but I always smoke in traffic jams, as a break from working, and in social settings such as the situation I plan on being in tonight. The more ideas I have the better! Thanks in advance!

  1. I dont know what kind of social situation this is going to be but maybe you could make sure youre engaged in a conversation or if everyone seems to be outside take something to munch on so you dont feel like youre bored and need to smoke. I dont know. thats a tough one. goodluck. you can do it :)

  2. Keep an empty jar with you at all times. Put all of your cigarette butts in there when you're done smoking. It will be a jar of shame.

To keep yourself occupied, try doing something that requires use of both hands, like playing cards, the hand-slap game.

Try putting a sign on your car that says "Please scould me if I'm holding a cigarette."

  3. chew your nails, tap your foot, crack your knuckles( just don't pull them like push down on them), or get the smoking patch to try to stop smoking all together!

  4. I admire you trying to avoid it. Try mints and gum. Strong mints are really good like Altoids. They really change the way things taste. Just take it one moment at a time. Good luck.

  5. heroin

  6. I do not smoke, and I never have, so I cant possibly know what your going through in trying to quit somking, but, I've heard some things that have helped other people.  When the urge to smoke hits, try chewing gum.  You cant do the nicotien gum either, cause your putting the same nasty chemicals in your body, and it's not good for you.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that your body wants and needs the bad stuff now and you are addicted.  When you fail to give your body what it wants, it's going to cry and scream, and get mad, and it will make you feel miserable.  You will get the shakes, and you will not feel good.  But if you can make it 48 hours past that, I've heard it gets easier.

I've dealt with other addictions, one thing that helps with other addictions is to have someone there to tell you when they notice you about to give in to it, and have them give you encouragement.  Make yourself accountable to someone, who will help you.

Often times when addiction takes over, you do it without even thinking about it, almost in your sleep.  If you have someone to help wake you up, it is helpful.

  7. If you're only quitting for a few hours, I guess hard candy would be your best bet.

  8. aww thats really sad that you have 3-10 cigs a day =[[[[[[[ ok how about the nicotine gum?

  9. drinking helps!!! trust me!!

  10. quiters are losers. haha.

you can go a day without smoking just chew gum.

i can go 3 days without smoking and im the kind that will smoke all there in like 3 hours just cause i have em.

  11. gum

  12. Some people chew gum, eat sunflower seeds or peanuts to help them quit or at least manage their smoking. There are nicotine gums that might help tide you over tonight.

  13. Whenever I don't want to smoke I usually grab a bag of lemon drops and pop one in my mouth whenever I feel the need to grab a cigarette.  Also, I found gum to be helpful too but lemon drops seem to work best.  I read somewhere that something in the lemondrop is supposed to help curb the cig craving...has worked for me.
