Any ideas for unique and interesting Halloween costumes for my little dog?

I would be willing to make it so it fits perfectly too. He is a papillon, which kind of looks like a high-eared, fluffy chihuahua with a squirrel tail. I have a 4-year old daughter that could match a theme with him, or he could have his own unique costume. Something extremely unique or even a Disney or movie character.

  1. have her dress up as a princess and the dog like a squirrel,

  2. I've attached a link with some Ideas for you.

Thanks for the reminder I'm going to have to start looking now for a good costume for my dog, last year she was a jogger, got a running suit for her to wear, she loves going door to door.

  3. ~ Maybe he could go as a dog, since that is what he is not a dress up toy.

I think you missed the boat on what dogs are for, apparently you thought it was the same as a doll with accessories.

  4. My son wanted to dress as a dalmatian one year, and I went as Cruella DeVill! Maybe get some washable hair spray and stray black spots on him. Haha...

My shih tzu went as a lady bug last year. My AmStaff has a Mail man costume this year, because my dad is a mail man.  I'm hoping Target has "hot dog"costumes again this year- I will get it for my other dog!

ADD- I take my dogs trick-or-treating with my kids, and they love it. There is NO reason you can't have fun with your dog for one day of the year!!! If your dog hates the costume and tries to chew it off, than don't make him wear it.

  5. I feel sorry for your accessory...oops, I meant dog.

  6. last year my friend was like going on a date for halloween costume so she wore a dress and her dog was wearing a tux it was soo cute

  7. Well, if you are thinking like Disney characters, maybe your daughter could dress up as Snow White and he could have a costume like one of the dwarves, or Princess Jasmine and he could wear a tiger costume and be Raja.

  8. you should dress him as elvis if he's a black and white papillon. If he's brown and white you should dress him as a cowboy.

  9. I was in Petsmart yesterday, (my home away from home) and they had some adorable costumes for dogs. They had a large variety and a great selection for dogs of all sizes. If you don't have a Petsmart near you, go to their website. I'm sure you can find something totally unique.

  10. This is the most unique dog costume I've ever seen. Look here: http://puppyintraining.com/wp-content/up...

The puppytraining.com website also lists where you can buy it. Also, since it's a papillon, I think maybe putting him in a tight brown sweater so that all the fur around his face sticks out would be cute if you wanted him to go as a lion from The Lion King or something.

Also, look here if you ever thought of dressing him up as a superhero, since all the superhero movies are really popular right now.

Or you could go with the classic and have your daughter dress as Belle and make your puppy the Beast. Just dress him in tattered beast clothing.

OR, look how adorable this is: It's Shrek, peter pan, woody from toy story and many others. http://spoiledrottendoggies.com/costumes...

*Seriously people, they're just clothes. We wear them. My dog loves dressing up. I can tell, because I always make a big deal about how cute she is and it makes her happy when I fuss over her. Of course, I fuss over her when she's not dressed up too. People could be doing a lot more harmful, neglectful things than dressing up their little friends. Back off a little.

  11. Our granddaughters dressed up as cowgirls, with red and white outfits and hats and showed their dachshund and our little longhair dachshund dressed up a cowgirl and cowboy.

We found outfits online for the dachsies, complete with white cowboy hats with red bands.

They won "cutest", it was a lot of fun for the kids and the dogs.

Christmas my longhair was an angel, white and gold dress with velcro on wings - she was a hit.   I have taken her to assisted living places, the old folks love to see dogs dressed up too.

    There are so many different outfits you can match with the dog and child, we have also done "biker chicks", black leather w. tiny rose embroidery and skull and crossbone zipper pull, the boys vests, the girls short dresses;

all 5 dachshunds have matching cloth harnesses, pom poms for the boys, lace and ribbon for the girls.

It's not hard to match a dog outfit with kids' outfits and lots of fun all around.

Come on Fetch --- as long as the dogs don't mind and the kids love it, what is the harm in dressing your dog up?   It's always a wonderful  part of Halloween here - the dog costume contest is the hit of the season, even the newspaper sends a photographer and reporter - good publicity for rescues and shelters too.
