Just brainstorming at the moment, so any suggestions are appreciated.
I'm a writer with a series of 8 (soon to be published) books, that I started when I was 12. After finishing my 10th book, I've started to re-work a lot of the first book series, and one of the problems that I have is on the topic of weapons. Right now, the characters have standard pistol that fires bolts of energy, and yeah, it works great, but I don't want that to be the primary weapon through the whole series. So around the 5th book or so, I wanted to introduce a new primary weapon for them...except that I can't think of any?!
Basic guidelines for what I was thinking about:
-Story is set in near future
-Most anything is possible to engineer, so nothing is too far fetched
-Needs to be simple, and easy to understand
-Can't be big, something that a person could clip to their belt and (sorta) forget about
-Can't be too powerful, otherwise it gets boring.
-Doesn't have to follow basic weapon guidelines, if its something like a special glove, that's fine too
-Feel free to make it a physics/science weapon, I've been studying quantum physics / engineering since I was 6, so I'll have no problem understanding what you're describing.
Thanks in advance for your help!
