  1. You do this when you take part, encourage and promote good manners and social skills when sitting with the children at meal/snack times, when out on a educational visit and by encouraging the children to be polite and share with others during activity times. You also do this by leading an activity when you encourage the children to take turns. You can promote good practise during hygiene times when the children are encouraged to wash their hands etc and they see you doing it too. Also this works with other members of staff and students, when preparing meals/snacks, dealing with parents and staff and cleaning up and setting out activityies etc. When you work within the early years you are constantly leading by example in everything you do.

  2. think of an example of something you do naturally and write it down  - what you do and why you do it.  that is demonstrating good practice.  it is just about proving something you already do.  for example:

You encourage the children to wash their hands after using the toilet.  This is good practice because it teaches children about hygiene and is preventing the spread of infection.

You observe the children playing and notice one child seems withdrawn and quiet.  Further observations are required and discussion with manager/parent etc to find out why.  you are promoting the child's well-being - this is good practice.

there are hundreds of examples you can pick from - look at your early learning goals and what you do to help the children achieve the 5 outcomes of the Every Child Matters Document.  What you do and how you do it is your good practice.

Good luck with course.  I am doing Open University Level 4 Early Years Studies.  Hard Work!

  3. Christine, just write about how your practice supports others, examples of any mentoring or training that you have led, or just day to day advice and support that you give to practitioners less qualified than your self. Remember the assessor is just seeking you to explain how good practice is shared and how you play a part in this. eMAIL me if you want some more advice.

  4. Do volunteer work and get testimonials from co-workers or people assisted.

  5. Well, do you encourage others? Do you do things right? Do you help others to do things properly by the way that you do things?

Just quote some examples of where that has happened..

If you haven't been doing that stuff, then how can they award you this qualification? You need to show them that you deserve it.

  6. I would say you're on the right track, just be yourself, and caring, showing God's love for you and in turn you'll show the children or young adults the love you feel for them, your first impression will be the one that last, and they will remember that their  mentor was everything I want to be; because he showed me he cared, had understanding for others, showed me that I could do anything I put my mind to do, to believe in  myself, always remember the feelings of others, respect for  myself and others.I believe God knew just what he was doing when he picked you for this NVQ level4, maybe when your kids or yoing adults looks back through their lives when grown up, your most gratifying thought will be(I think) I knew this child!May God Bless You and keep up the good work you're doing with these young adults!
