Just wondering how much it costs to run a tumble dryer for 90 mins? What with the credit crunch n all i'm trying to be savvy but due to this crappy weather the washing line isn't an option lol. I dry most stuff on an airer in the spare bedroom but sometimes i have to put the dryer on or i'd have no bloody dry clothes! Its a combined washer dryer, i think its energy rating B. Any ideas?

  1. It depends on your electric output... Are you running the AC and other major appliances?  About a yr. ago I read an article about saving money.. It suggested that if you run major appliances seperately it will cut down your electric bill by HALF... I tried it and it works. .At least for me... When I used to run my appliances it was all at once.. Load the dishwasher (run), unload washer run dryer and start another load.. While our bill wasn't outrageous it could've been better so I started running only 1 major appliance at a time... The dryer OR the washer.. .While the clothing is drying the next load is SOAKING.  My clothes come out cleaner in this process!  I also turn off the AC and run the dishwasher on time delay at night... That way it's running when no one needs/uses the HOT water!  We SAVE an avg. of $75 a month!  We also use a charcoal grill for most of the summer months and smaller electric appliances like the toaster oven and crock pots... So, that might help you as well... Also, I hang most of my clothing... I have clothing rack and I run a small fan to circulate the air. Or hang overnight so I don't hae to run my dryer.... That saves money as well..  Also, switching to energystar lightbulbs, unplugging appliances that aren't in use and turning your HOT water tank down will help your energy costs... You can also insulate your hot water heater and it will not have to "kick" on to heat the water as often...

Why not try air drying the clothing as long as possible and putting them in the dryer for 10 mintues to fully dry them?  That's better than 90 minutes at a time!

    Good luck

  2. unless you know what wattage it is, its hard to say,. You also need to know how much you are charged for electricity.

If its a 2000watt dryer running for 90 mins, thats 3 KWhours. If thats 15p per kwhour, then you get charged 45 p. (i have no idea what your tumble dryer is or what your electricity costs though).
