  1. If you can afford it, I would recommend The Danielli (sp?).  It's luxury and history all in one.  You may have to book early, I'm not sure.

  2. Try the Hotel Giorgione.  It is located in Campo SS Apostoli in the Cannaregio sestieri (there are six sestieri (sections) in Venice; San Marco, Santa Croce, San Polo, Castello, Cannaregio and Dorsoduro)). About 1/3 of Venice’s population lives in Cannaregio so you will be  able to see first hand how the folks in Venice really live!

In the late 1700s, the hotel was a large confectionery warehouse.  It was converted into a hotel called “Hosteria” in the early 1800s and became Hotel Giorgione in 1885.

    It's quite lovely.  Here's their web site:http://www.hotelgiorgione.com/en/.

I'd highly highly recommend this hotel!  Lucky you to be going to Venice!

  3. Hello, Venice is a very touristic place with a great number of hotels.

Usually I use booking.com for my reservations because of the better prices and offers.

You can see a list of hotels in Venice with details of the rooms, city maps, guests' reviews (very very important) and ratings at http://www.booking.com/searchresults.htm...

Browse by yourself and have in mind what other people like or not on their accommodation. Enjoy Venice!

  4. honestly EJ - it depends on your price range - there are great hotels in Venice at every price level.  If money is tight, I highly recommend Hotel Galleria next to the Accademia bridge, if money's no object then my choice would be the Gritti Palace.

Check out www.tripadvisor.com to see what other travelers have said about different properties - you'll find honest reviews and can also book properties from the handy link they have to multiple search engines.  They rank all the hotels and B&B's and you'll see very up-to-date reviews and information.

  5. Hotel Metropole - it is 1st class and right on the Grand Canal - be prepared to spend fome real mon

  6. For old world elegance and incredible location, you cannot beat the San Clemente Palace Hotel, next to the Piazza San Marco.

  7. The Hotel Monaco is very nice, as is the Westin, or the Boscolo.  There are several nice hotels, the best being in Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square).  Try expedia.com or travelocity, though.  I always find very good deals and good information on those sites.

If you're not looking for a 5 star hotel, there are many nice 3 and 4 star options in Venice.  Nothing is cheap, however.  Even a 3 star hotel by the train station can run about $100 euros per night.

When searching for a hotel in Venice, be very careful of which section of the island the hotel is in-you don't want to stay on Lido in the winter!  Also, hotels may come up that are in the "Venice area".  Make sure it is on the island, or you will have to drive or take the train every day.

  8. Hotel Marconi, right near the Rialto Bridge.  Reasonably priced, classic decorations, glass fixtures, breakfast included.
