Any ideas on a environmentally themed thesis?

I am in a bit of a rut as to what to base my thesis on and any suggestions would be great.

It can deal with any aspect of the environment and thats the problem....its too broad!!

So any ideas would be good!! Tanks

I would love to see more research done into the environmental costs of recycling verses reusing.

In decades past we would get products in packaging that was meant to be reused. For example: Flour was sold in cloth bags that could be sewn into quilts or clothing. Beverages came in reusable bottles that were returned to the bottling company. Food came in pint or quart sized jars that could be used for home canning. Most "tin cans" had large flat sides so that the can could be flattened out and used for home repair projects.

Now nothing is really made to be used again and "Recycle" is the catch phrase but recycling takes energy too. Glass that was once sold and then returned for reuse is now recycled instead.

Even the Paper or Plastic question is going this route. We could just reuse the billions of plastic bags we already have but that isn't as popular as buying brand new fashion shopping bags, mostly made in China or India. How is that better for the environment??

Write your thesis on the benefits of reusing what we already have.
