Any ideas on chores for kids?

My kids are 4 and 6 1/2. I would like to start having them do chores and get an allowance. Anyone have any ideas or systems that seem to be working for you? I would love to hear from moms with kids the same ages and hear what their chores are and how much allowance they get. Thanks in advance!

  1. My six-year-old receives a quarter every day for making her bed. If she folds towels, another quarter. Washes the dishes - you guessed it - another quarter. Some days she earns over $1.00 - others - she doesn't earn a dime. It helps her learn that her allowance isn't a freebie.

  2. -folding clothes and towels

-rinsing the dishes when u wash(of course they'll have 2 stand in a chair

    -cleaning their room

-emptying the waste basket in the bathroom

allowance 5 for the 4yr old

and 10 for the 61/2 yr old biweekly

  3. This is what my mom did.. She kept a little white board with our names on the top, and put it on our fridge, there was a marker on the fridge too. Whenever we would help out like making out beds or picking up our toys, or setting the table, we would be able to put a check mark under our name... If we made a big mess and would refuse to help out, she would take away one.. but barely.. at the end of every month or week, give each child a quarter for every check mark... It will get them to want to do chores, so you get them in a habit of doing chores

Once they get older, I would make them do the chores, no option.. And I would give them a normal monthly allowance, my parents would give us our grade level times 8, and that would be our allowance, but she put half of it in our bank accounts, and the other half we get to spend.. Good Luck! I hope I helped!

  4. make up a star chart where your children get stars for cleaning up their toys, helping with the washing up bring down their dirty washing.where do you live the early learning center do wonderfull chores charts.i wouldn't give allowance id give treats i do this with my son who is 5.i keep cards with treats written on them after 5 he can lucky dip from one bag to pick his prize stickers, extra TV time, extra ice cream, painting time, get crayons, colouring book after7 pick from bag containing larger treats trip to zoo/pictures?swimming get a DVD,magazine, its up to him if he wants to trade in stars or hold out for 7.you can vary rewards to kids ages my son loves it and works for his treats

  5. First off, I think it's great that you want to teach your kids responsibility starting at a young age! I wish all parents did that these days! I don't have kids that age, but when i was that age I had chores! Some of my chores were: drying the dishes after they were washed (we didn't have a dishwasher then), making sure my room was picked up, taking the sheets off the bed, varnishing the wooden furniture (dusting), etc! Simple stuff like that is what I had to do! As I got older I had more chores! Hope I helped...

  6. A good idea would be to have them put their toys away when they playwith them. It teaches them to be clean and organized.

  7. When I was 6 young my mom had me... make my bed, put toys away, staighten out the shoes near the door or closet, put the pillows nicely on the couch, and help fold clothes or help her put clothes in the washing machine and dryer.

My mom said when I was 4 I used to put my toys away, and put my shoes away nicely, and fix my bed.

  8. You could have them feed your animals if you have inside animals.  If you're not nuts over lines in the carpet, they could vacuum.  They could make their beds and keep their rooms clean.  They could carry laundry for you.

I give my son a dollar a year.
