so are there any tricks to the trade without having to do the whole 3rd grade stuff?? thanks

  1. You could turn on automatic spell checker on your computer so no matter where you type - in AIM, on line, and in word documents - your spelling is constantly corrected. Make a point of noting how many words you misspell a day and try to do better the next day and so on.

  2. Everytime you are not sure how to spell a word, look it up in a dictionary and go over the spelling in your mind once. It is tedious in the beginning, but as you get more proficient in spelling, you won't have to refer to the dictionary as often.

  3. Here is what we tell our middle school kids when they complain about being "bad spellers"

Read.  Read as much as you can and as often as you can.  Read anything you can get your hands on.  You are exposing yourself to tons of words when you do this.

Work on crossword puzzles.  Use a dictionary to help you.

Get a phonics book from Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Barnes and Nobles, where ever you can find one.  Get a couple of basic ones.  They will have spelling rules that will help you learn why words are spelled the way they are.

Get a Franklin Speller. It is about the size of a small calculator and you type words into it.  Some even have a voice option where you can hear the words you are trying to spell.  Dictionary.com has a similar option.

    Hope this helps some!

  4. Read more. Or you could try reading the dictionary!

  5. Reading for some people is boring. So there are other fun and not so  fun but ways to learn to spell better. You could try:

    1. Word-searches. That always helped me.

    2. Crossword puzzles.

    3. Even give yourself like weekly spelling tests or something.

  6. read more books, reading books improves your vocabulary, spelling and grammar skills. try to write more than you speak, the more you write the better. When you are confused, break the word into parts and spell each part, that helps too.

practice more and more with spelling tests, you may find thousands of those online too. never let your doubt uncleared, consider checking da dictionary
