We will be adopting our foster son hopefully. we got him as a baby but it will be many months or even a year before we adopt. I know you use the day he is adopted not the day he was born but any examples would be nice

  1. When my adoption of my daughter was final, I called everyone and said "Hey I just became a mama again" Which was funny to everyone because I had just given birth to my son 2 months earlier.

For the written invitation how about something like

"It's a boy!  "Johnny"  who has been our son in our hearts for a long time is now our son forever. Our adoption was finalized on May 19, 2008"

Then you could ad whatever other details such as if you are having  a party to celebrate or anythign else you wnted to add.

  2. Why use a date at all?

Why not just say "we're honored to have 'Billy' officially join our family".

  3. How about...

We are pleased to introduce to you our son,

    Adam Edward Smith

    Born in <birthplace> on <birthdate>

Born in our heart <placement day> (if different)

Welcomed to his forever family on <finalization date>

Or combine 2 lines together in placed at birth...born in the world and our heart on <birthdate>

I just got my adoption announcements today and LOVE them! Check out http://www.thefirstglimpse.com. She is an adoptive parent herself and does tons of adoption announcements.

  4. MY HUSBAND IS ADOPTING MY DAUGHTER AND WE ARE PLANNING ON A PARTY FOR THE DAY THAT IT IS FINAL. WE ARE PLANNING ON SENDING OUT CARDS THAT WILL BE SAYING " OUR DAUGHTER HAS A NEW LAST NAME AND WE WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO HELP US CELEBRATE THIS WONDERFUL DAY".

  5. How about, "we would like to officially welcome.... to our family"

  6. When our adoption was finalized, we sent picture cards of our family from the finalization ceremony.  On the card, we had printed:

    **************************************...

                          Thank God It's Final!

                                         and

Thank YOU for your love and support

                    through this amazing journey!

                       Adoption Finalization Day

                             (the date written out)

The "official" (last name inserted here) Family

(Mom's name, Dad's name, and Child's Name here)

    **************************************...

We just felt we needed to thank everyone for their support along the way and also let everyone know the good news that the adoption was final.  We felt this was the best way to incorporate both things.

    Good luck.

  7. we are adopting 4 children and it will be final in a month, what we are doing is. once it is final we are sending invitations to our family shower. we are welcoming our children to the family. you can put we would like to introduce to you the newest member of our family   __________. it depends on how much info everyone knows. you may need to add a little something to each announcement  his b day ect.... i think you really dont need a date per say only because it really doesnt matter he was your son the day you got him.       congrats to you

  8. I know someone that had adopted and in the paper they wrote something like:

Announcing the arrival of our daughter (her name) on (the date adoption was final). Then they also put what her weight and heighth was as of the day of the adoption. Not only did they have something to remind them of how big she was that day but it made several people wonder how they had a baby that big. This way it wasn't pointing out that she was adopted. It only stated that they brought their baby home. Oh and she was 2 1/2 years old.
