Any ideas on my ferocious pup?

I have a 3 year old maltese pomeranian and he is a vicious little thing. Every time we try to give him a bath, he bites the h**l out of me.

How should I get the muzzle on him without him biting the sh*t out of me first?

  1. training will help, also check out Cesar Millan's website

  2. Hmm, I don't think its really about needing a muzzle as being calm with him?. - No I'm not saying your being mean during bath time ^^ - My mom has a dog that likes to bite during bath time yet using a calming tone, going slow so he see's what I'm doing has kept him from biting me. This obviously doesn't work for every dog though.

I might suggest depending upon where you bath him ie: tub, shower, sink, etc. Specially on smaller dogs some nozzles shooting out water hurt them even if they don't hurt us. If after a few times trying it calm doesn't work I'd suggest asking your vet what they might suggest.. Unforunately sometimes dogs don't get out of this habit.

If that's the case maybe and this is a bit of a crazy suggestion but it works, get a small kid pool, or if it's a small dog something about the size of a litter box put him in it fill it with a bit of warm water like to the dogs stomach almost make sure to add soap grab a cup or something and dig in getting him wet as you can then have another bucket or something with clean warm water to rinse, if nothing else it'll get him a bath though probably not a very good one ^^:

  3. And you keep this dog because....?  If I had a dog that was so nasty I couldn't even get a muzzle on it, it would be going to that doghouse in the sky.

There's too many really nice dogs out there that need homes.

  4. did you ever train it?

  5. Sounds like someone is very unhappy.  Go to your local pets mart, or pet store & ask for waterless or dry shampoo.  You may have to look in the cat isle.  No tub, no water no pain to you.  You rub it on them (put it in your hands first so he thinks your just petting him) brush him & amazing it does work & they are clean.  Then little by little take him in the  you in the tub talk to him pet him & let him see no harm is to you.  Them try a washcloth with water & baby shampoo on it.  Wipe him down away from the bathroom or kitchen sink & gradually start doing it closer to the area where he will be bathed.  Eventually, put him in the area & repeat.  This is desensitizing the dog to him fears.  Good luck
