Any ideas or resources for teaching "Romeo and Juliet" to Special Ed students?

  1. watching a play or a movie, making up a play with them if you can, summarizing the play for them or making a picture puzzle out of the play and letting them solve it.

  4. My 12 year old daughter is autistic (aspergers) and she is reading "Shakespear and Me".  Try that.

  5. Try using Reader's Theater. After all, it is a play, so it lends itself to this. However, I would go through and eliminate excess verbiage so that the kids are not having to read long passages.

    When you divide up the parts, have students practice their parts in pairs until they can read the information fluently. Then let them act out the play. You don't need costumes or anything. Look up Reader's Theater on the Net.
