  1. Your house, property, and area sound like a very interesting site for someone with the National Trust for Historic Preservation or any of the World War historical associations.  Can you search online for a national association that can point you to a local state contact? Is there a nearby university with an "archaeology" "architecture" or "history" department that might have a graduate student or group interested in this kind of research? Please check with universities, museums, or historical associations that might know a researcher near to your area or specializing in that.

Thank you for asking and looking into this. Sometimes rare historical finds occur because someone like you takes the time to ask and search for an answer.  Best wishes and I hope your search uncovers more valuable history!

  2. fire pit

  3. Given your location, is this possibly a well?  Beyond that, I have no ideas!

  4. Does it have an entrance of any kind, could be air raid shelter, or a soak away (not cess pit) otherwise Go with Angus idea

  5. Ask your neighbours , or go to the library , they will have books on the local area, see what was there before your house was built

  6. A well or bomb shelter, if it is newer than the house.

  7. Sounds like a Victorian era water culvert or perhaps Ice house. probably pre-dates both your house and the airfield.

    I suggest contacting Subterranea Britannica.

  8. I too live in SE Kent, nearest WW2 airfields are Hawkinge and Manston.

Any house situated as close to a prime target as yours is would definitely have had an air raid shelter. It would have been built away from the house and preferably mostly below ground level to protect it from blast.

If you need it checked out with a metal detector let me know, as that is my hobby. There may be coins inside the brickwork to help date it.

  9. it is the lost city
